Property Release

Property or items that were seized by the Coroner's Office during the course of our investigation are available to be returned to the family or legal next of kin once our investigation is completed. If circumstances permit, we are able to release personal property prior to the completion of the investigation. Please call us at 765-420-7607 to inquire if the property can be released. If there is a dispute over property by living family or legal next of kin, the Coroner's Office staff will default to the family succession list set by Indiana law.

Government issued identification, biohazard material, and prescription medications are not able to be returned. The Coroner's Office staff is able to make color photocopies of government issued identifications by request. If there is property or another item that will be used or potentially will be used in a criminal proceeding, those items will not be returned until the criminal proceeding is over or dropped from record.

The TCCOR staff is able to release property to the funeral home of your choosing upon request.

Records Requests

The Coroner's Office is only able to release documents that we have prepared and that are our work product. We are not able to release any healthcare medical records, assisting law enforcement records, other agency reports, etc.

When filling out the form below, please be specific about who the decedent is, including reasonable decedent identifiers (DOB, location of death, etc.), and what information you are requesting.

Family/Legal Next of Kin: Reports or documents are available by request at no cost to you. Please be prepared to verify your identity.

General Public: Records or documents specified in I.C. 36-2-14 are available by request at no cost to you.

Law Enforcement/State & Federal Agencies: Reports or documents are available by request at no cost to you. Please be prepared to verify your identity and submit your credentials.

Insurance Companies: Reports or documents are available to you for a minimum fee of $100. In addition to filling out the form above, please send a written request on your official letterhead to coroner@tippecanoe.in.gov.
