On October 4, 2021 the West Lafayette City Council passed Resolution 18-21 authorizing the Area Plan Commission of Tippecanoe County to study parks and open spaces for sustainable growth of the West Lafayette park system and to include this study as an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan of Tippecanoe County. City staff assembled a working group of park professionals from the County, City, and Purdue University to scrutinize and inform APC staff’s work. Over the course of 2022, APC developed a draft proposal for the working group and in December of 2022 a final draft was delivered to city staff for Parks Board review and approval. In February of 2023, APC staff appeared before the Parks Board and presented the draft and solicited comments from the Board. On March 20, 2023 the Parks Board requested a representation of the draft incorporating their comments. They recommend approval of the document and referred it to the Area Plan Commission and City Council for adoption.
